Greetings~
After my comment in my last post of the Pileated woodpeckers feasting on crab
apples over the winter, I thought I'd share a few pictures. Amazing what
acrobats they can be clinging to the small branches. I've had as many as 4
feeding together, perhaps the pair and their young from last spring? That is
not the case anymore, as the pair is driving off other birds showing up on
their turf. No more apples to be had, the recent large flock of robins took
care of that.
Redpolls have moved on, only a couple this morning and one siskin. A few more
purple finch as well as juncos and sapsuckers coming in. Sandhillcranes
arrived the other morning, that call was music to my ears!
