Fellow WISBIRDN members -
It is with great sadness that I need to let you know that Peter Fissel, after a
lengthy battle with cancer, has been admitted to a hospice facility. He’s been
ill for quite some time but until just now, hasn't wanted the news to become
widespread.
I just spoke with him by phone and asked, “Is there anything I can do for
you?”. In typical Peter style, “Please thank everyone for all the years of
friendship and support”.
Peter is being medicated for pain and tires easily. He doesn't wish to have
people phoning or emailing directly. I suggested, and he agreed, that anyone on
Wisbirdn who wants to share a message with Peter, to please email me back
channel. I will collect and pass on any messages as soon as I receive them.
I will also be posting this message on my personal FB page. I know that several
members of WISBIRDN belong to other WI FB birding groups. I ask that you please
share this message. Peter never adopted FB as a social media platform. Wise man.
I want to publicly express my gratitude to Peter for his years of backing me up
on Wisbirdn. His friendship, his patience, his sense of humor (which he still
retains even now), and his sage advice. All have been been invaluable over the
years. I’m sure that any of you who have had to good fortune to know Peter,
feel the same way.
