This weekend was spent helping join the North Country Trail from Copper Falls State Park (Ashland Co.) further up along the Bad River east to Iron County. Nothing too exciting bird wise, but at the park were many yellow-rumped and palm warblers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, and golden-crowned kinglets. Came back quickly this morning with my 3 year old via the Nicolet National Forest. A gorgeous but fairly windy day. Only thing of note was that I again stopped at the Brule River Campground on HWY 55 north of Alvin (Forest Co., just east of Nelma). It is now closed but we parked at the entrance and went in. Heard a woodpecker near one of the first campsites and soon saw a piece of red pine bark fall to the ground. Looked up and it was a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER banging away. It soon flew off and I didnâ??t hear/see it again. -Mike Duchek, Waukesha, Waukesha Co. #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
