Arrived before dawn at Crex and watched a beautiful sunrise before clouds came in. We saw 9 species of sparrows including the Nelson's which we found on East Refuge Rd. southeast of the pump house. Hundreds of Sandhill Cranes were everywhere on the refuge. Lots of Canada Geese and 6 species of ducks, coot all over and several families of Trumpeter Swans. Pished out an American Bittern while looking for sparrows. Had a Merlin, kestrels, harrier, and several Bald Eagles. The only warblers we found were Palms flitting ahead of us on the dike roads.
