Last Friday evening the local screech owl was trilling up a storm. Last year
he briefly checked out my wood duck house but ended up nesting a couple of
houses down. Maybe I can coax him to nest in my yard this year.
This past Sunday I was on the ice by Sturgeon Bay fishing for whitefish.
Someone had left a small whitefish on the ice which the gulls soon found.
Along with about 20 herring gulls was an adult glaucous gull. A few minutes
later an adult bald eagle swooped in and grabbed the whitefish much to the
chagrin of the gulls.
Yesterday I was out at my farm by Leipsig and flushed an owl from behind my
shed. It flew about 100 yds and when it landed I could see it was one of the
local barred owls. I often see/hear them across the road but this is the first
time I've seen them on my side of the road.
