While visiting a friend at the Catholic Residence on Milwaukee's east side today, we spent time outside in their lovely "assisted living" atrium. It has a three+ story (40'+/-) surround, though with numerous young birch and ground layer plantings. I was surprised to see a juvenile Sora Rail taking cover amidst the ground covers and shrubs as we walked the square. Seemed healthy, but I did feel concerned that it wouldn't be able to navigate its way out of the confines of the atrium. I wasn't in a position to try to capture the bird for transport to the Humane Society. Betsy Abert, So.
