Halloween was a good day to be out and about on the Milwaukee lakefront. Many first-of-season (FOS) birds. Very nice weather... A few highlights: * Several FOS Gadwalls near the shore at North Point. Here's a photo of one of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6306586743/in/photostream * Other duck species popping up off of North Point as well: - Common Goldeneye (FOS) - Lesser Scaup (FOS) - Greater Scaup (FOS) - White-winged Scoter (FOS) - Black Scoter - Surf Scoter * Several FOS passerine species along the shore: - Lapland Longspur - Horned Lark - Snow Bunting * There's a wildflower planting area in Milwaukee's Lake Park to the west of the Locust Street Ravine, pretty much due west of the park's Warming House. It was packed with birds on Monday! I'm estimating 70+ Dark-eyed Juncos and 40+ American Goldfinches. And one or two FOS Pine Siskins!! Looks like this area bears watching... * Here's a photo of a few goldfinches at the Lake Park Warming House feeder: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6307138496/in/photostream * Pretty cool rock sculpture on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Someone obviously knew what they were doing, and took a lot of time balancing these rocks: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6304012685/in/photostream * These coloful leaves were floating on the surface of Lake Michigan just south of the Milwaukee Art Museum: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6304008643/in/photostream * Finally, a Halloween photo. A spooky fish skull on Milwaukee's Bradford Beach. :-) http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6300798622/in/photostream Bernie Sloan Milwaukee #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
