I saw the Milwaukee King Eider on Sunday, but forgot my camera. Went back today and the bird was trying its best to be photogenic!! This is my Milwaukee walking BIGBY species #205 for the year, and the 28th new life bird I've found since moving to Milwaukee in August 2010. This King Eider is a pleasure to watch, offering lots of close-up views. I didn't even need binocs to ID her, or to tell that she was eating mussels. As an example of how close this bird is to the shore, I took the following photo with a camera that I carry in my pants pocket. Granted the camera has a 20x zoom, but I carry it in my pocket everywhere I go: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6420861303/in/photostream I last saw this bird at 12:45PM today. It's been there for a couple of days. If anyone is interested, there is a small rock island in Lake Michigan behind the Milwaukee Art Museum. There's a pole in the water to the north of the rock island. The King Eider often hangs in this area.
