I spent most of the day looking for migrants in various places. Starting at
the Breezy Pt/Jersey Rds pond there were 500+ Gr. White-fronted Geese. South
of Beaver Dam I ran into Jeff Bahls were we had a nice talk and watched more
White-fronted Geese, etc. A Killdeer was seen along Meadow Rd. I concur with
Steve on Mc Farland and Stoughton water---there was almost nothing at either
spot.
I moved back up to the Columbia ponds (Arlington area). Harvey/DM pond had
600+ White-fronted Geese, 2 Ross's Geese and a pair of Wood Ducks, plus other
"standard" waterfowl. Harvey/60 pond had 2 Cackling Geese amongst the numerous
Canadas plus quite a few White-fronted. Shumacher pond had some Tundra Swans
and 1 Trumpeter amongst the Canadas and more White-fronted. A flock of
blackbirds at the V pond contained at least one Rusty Blackbird.
A check of 49 in Horicon marsh yielded a Rough-legged hawk and 100s of Canada
Geese at the pump house pond. There were 6 Snow Geese with them (5 white and 1
blue).
For the day Redwings were scattered all over as were Sandhill Cranes. The Gr
White-fronted Geese total for all the spots was between 1400 - 1500. They have
really moved in during the past few days---very impressive. The tally for the
day was 61 species, a real nice way to enjoy the spring weather.
