I spent part of this morning checking out the limited open water in these two
cities. At Jefferson Park (Menasha), in addition to the standard wintering
ducks, there also were the following: 1 Mute and 3 Tundra Swans, 1
White-winged Scoter, 6 Gadwalls, 6 Lesser Scaup and 1 Greater Scaup, 15
Redheads, hundreds of Herring Gulls and 15 Ring-billed Gulls plus numerous Bald
Eagles. The swans have been present since late Feb, while the scoter
apparently has been seen intermittently since Feb, ditto the Redheads and
Gadwalls, while the scaup could be migrants. The Ring-billeds were the first in
this area since mid Dec. At Jones Island (Menasha) only standard ducks but 3
Double-cr. Cormorants were present, the first since mid Dec and the White
Pelican was also there (apparently has wintered here but hard to see at times).
At Kimberly Pt (Neenah) there were hundreds of Herring Gulls. Among them were
1 Glaucous (adult) and a Great Black-backed (1st yr).
