I spent the morning checking out the north side of Lower Mud Lake and then the
Yahara River (McFarland and Stoughton respectively). There were about 300
Shovelers at the first site plus the usual other waterfowl. Cty B in Stoughton
(Yahara River) had a nice variety of waterfowl. Best were 20 Gr. White-fronted
Geese, 10 Pintails, 2 Am. Wigeon, 30+ Canvasbacks, 10+ Redheads, 30+ Lesser
Scaup, single Ring-necked Duck and Bufflehead and a Trumpeter Swan amongst all
the Tundras. Interesting was a "male C. Goldeneye" that had strange cheek
markings, making it to appear as a possible goldeneye/bufflehead hybrid. It
was really trying to court the female goldeneyes.
The Arena boat landing was quiet until I started pushing. Best here was a
Bluebird and a Red-shouldered Hawk.
