My morning began early while pulling purple loosestrife for a biocontrol project. A glorious morning on McDonald Road (well just off in waist deep water) in the Navarino State Wildlife Area. I had at least 6 different American bitterns calling at once! In addition, there was a least bittern, soras, and Virginia rails that could be heard in the distance on a still morning. I also heard/saw my first swamp sparrows of the year. Psyched to be forced to have field work during the upcoming migration. Let's see...curly-leaf pondweed surveys anyone?
