It was a fabulous morning in Lake Park today. Highlights included 19 Sanderlings, a flock of 10 American Pipits on the field by the old running track, a Gray-Cheeked Thrush, Ovenbird, Golden-Winged, Black-Throated Blue, and Myrtle Warblers, at least three (and possibly four or five) Winter Wrens, and a nice selection of sparrows: White-Throated (many), White-Crowned, Harris's, Lincoln's, and Savannah. I just spent a week in Oklahoma, mostly visiting in-laws, but I did squeeze some birding in. I got one lifer - Mississippi Kite - plus had several other nice finds: Summer Tanager, Black Vulture, Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher, Snowy Egret, White-Eyed Vireo, Bewick's Wren, Least Tern, and three species that were apparently good finds for the area (according to eBird): Herring Gull, Common Tern, and MacGillivray's Warbler. I had 61 species total, which isn't bad for a trip that wasn't built around birding!
