There was a huge flock of common goldeneye just off of Bradford Beach and Lake Park this afternoon. Mixed in are some greater scaup, a few buffleheads, and a pair of red-breasted mergansers. Wave action was steady and they were feeding actively, but I scanned for a while trying to find any different goldeneyes, without luck. However, there is an apparent common goldeneye X hooded merganser hybrid at South Shore Yacht Club. It looks generally like a male goldeneye, but the head is blockier and is all dark (no white spot), and the flanks were gray. The bill is more merganser than goldeneye, long and thin. Very interesting. Jym Mooney, Milwaukee #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
