This morning as I was traveling highway CW east of Watertown I saw some killdeer and mourning doves in a heavily manured corn stubble field. I also saw 2 other suspicious looking birds I couldn't identify at 55 mph. So naturally I went back, got the scope out and found 2 American pipits, my foy. I could see the field marks but they were running around foraging so rapidly there was no tail bobbing. When they would take a break for more than a few seconds there it was, the characteristic tail bobbing. Before I left I panned the field and counted 81 killdeer, easily the most I've ever seen in one place at one time.
