Hello.... the Hummingbirds here are hitting the feeders and flowers,
especially orange jewel weed, of which I have a ton. I have seen them at open
jelly feeders, but usually after a rain when there is some water in the
containers too. Bald faced hornets and yellow-jackets have really been all
over the jelly for past few weeks and have completely emptied a couple.

Hello all,
We have our 4 hummingbird feeders still up with two Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds still coming to them. However, another Hummingbird has arrived
and is going strictly to the jelly feeders ( which are infested with bald faced
hornets ) and ignoring the regular hummingbird feeders even when they are not
occupied. This new Hummingbird also visits the cana flowers nearby. I had
my camera out to take a few pictures of a migrating Red-headed Woodpecker in
the yard, so I took a number of photos of this Hummingbird at the jelly
feeders. Has anyone ever seen a Hummingbird at the open jelly feeders
eating the jelly. I am having my pictures developed to get a better look at
this guy, by the time I got my binoculars out the other Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds were harassing it big time and I was not able to get my binoculars
on it. Lu Ann did get her binoculars on it and she said it resembled an
immature or female Ruby-throated Hummingbird but it was eating at t he jelly
feeders.
Does anyone know if Black-chinned Hummingbirds ( which resemble
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds a lot ) go for jelly? Or is the jelly eating
something that Ruby-throated Hummingbirds do, but I just have not witnessed it
until today?
Also a Huge Thanks to Tom and the WSO for keeping this forum alive.
Our Condolences also to the fine Gentlemen's Family, the Gentlemen that
ran the Horicon Marsh boat tour. We really enjoyed the boat ride and the
knowledge he happily gave to everyone on the tour. He gave a Fun tour and a
good education on aspects of the marsh we were not familiar with.
