While walking along the Bark River near Merton yesterday afternoon after a storytelling gig at the school, I was happy to hear a calling Great Horned Owl in the area. I didn't try too hard to find it, figuring they are caring for little ones, but it was a wonderful sound to hear with the river bubbling nearby. I also heard some very tentative spring peepers there. In another area closer to town, around the Millpond, I saw and heard a Song Sparrow singing about maids and teakettles! And we're going back to winter tomorrow. Oh well!
