I was thrilled to see a rufous-colored Eastern Screech-Owl peeking out
of our backyard duck box yesterday afternoon. It is the 102nd species
seen at our new place. We are coming up to the end of our first year
here next month and I'm happy with the number of birds seen.
You might recall that at our last place in Lebanon, in Dodge County, a
pair of Screech-Owls, one gray and one rufous, occupied one of the
boxes and were successful with breeding. We left that box there and
took one with us to our place in Richfield, in hopes that Wood Ducks
would find it. So far we've never had Wood Ducks in the boxes...but we
again thank Jeff Bahls for providing us with them.
You can see a photo I took of it here:

The Northern Mockingbird that was seen in mid-January for four days,
recently returned, spending three days in a row here. It visited the
yard a couple times each morning, one time around the noon hour, as
well. It mostly drinks a lot of water from our heated bird bath. I
didn't see it today, but am hopeful for more looks at it. I have
posted those sightings to ebird with photos.
