As of Tuesday night, he was still there and calling lustily. THERE was on Bartos Rd., two-tenths of a mile west of the junction with Kirsch Road, which is also the entrance to the Black River Correctional Center. This is 1.5 miles north of Highway 54 and 10 miles east of Black River Falls. He began calling from the north side of the road at 9 p.m., 12 minutes after sunset, and continued for 8 minutes before flying across the road to the south and resuming calling. At 9:20, as Whipporwills were beginning to call, he was still there and going strong. The spot where he first was heard was near the tallest skinny oak tree nearest the road, which happens to have a small blank signpost in front of it as if to mark the spot.
