Was able to visit Brillion this morning. Swung by the Hwy. B/57 pond on the way in. The area is definitely holding plenty of water, and the field had been cut last Fall, so the habitat is there for shorebirds if and when they arrive. However this morning there were only a Great Blue Heron and a couple geese. Headed over to the impoundment and then walked the trails by the Nature Center. Definitely needed the duck hunting boots to get through the trails. Nothing particularly notable, but lots of geese and cranes, particularly in the flooded fields and quite a few more diving ducks than what is usual for that area. Fox Sparrows, Hermit Thrushes, and sapsuckers were easy finds in the woods. From the observation deck, which took quite a beating this last winter, Ospreys were gathering material for one of the two nesting platforms, serenaded by winnowing snipe. All in all, it was a nice tally of birds....for late March. Complete list below...
