After reading Peg Zappen's report from yesterday (Hi, Peg) of orioles in Trempealeau, I ran out with a dish of grape jelly. This morning, I was rewarded with a Baltimore oriole at the feeder. It was closely followed by a rose-breasted grosbeak feeding on the sunflower seeds. The strong winds continued to blow and I saw several white-crowned sparrows in the yard later in the day, and to top it off, an orchard oriole, who was also attracted to the grape jelly. We took a little ride out into the countryside, and saw swallows, swallows, swallows everywhere! A mixed group----both tree and barn, sitting on the wires and swooping over the fields and water. I am concerned that they may not be finding food.
