I am glad to see that there are birders with a sense of humor, especially on April 1. Some may remember the April 1,2009 press release that appeared to be from the folks at Cornell who first broke the story about the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. In a beautifully crafted parody which closely followed the language of the Ivory-bill story,it told of the discovery of a previously unknown population of Carolina Paroquets in the jungles of Honduras. But perhaps the greatest April 1 "bird" story was the feature article in the April 1,1985 issue of Sports Illustrated by George Plimpton about New York Mets phenom pitcher Sidd Finch who could throw a baseball 150 mph. Finch "retired" the next week without having pitched in a game.
