Spouse and self birded Wyalusing to Prairie du Chien to Lock and Dam 9 then south to Dickeyville Bottoms yesterday. We do this trip around the 1st or 2nd weekend of April each year (this might be year 9 or 10 for me). Last year we went April 11. Nothing too unusual to report in terms of sightings. We only had ONE warbler the entire day, a singing LOUSIANA WATERTHRUSH at Wyalusing. Other highlights included WINTER WRENS at Wyalusing and Good Nuf Hollow. Nice looks at a pair of BARRED OWLS. EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES easily seen in Prairie Du Chien along Co Rd. K between Limery Rd. and Cliffwood Dr. Waterfowl numbers/diversity better than some years. Strangely MISSING from this year's trip were Yellow-rumps and Ruby-Crown Kinglets (I don't think we've ever missed these two species). Also last year we picked up Yellow-throated Warbler at Wyalusing on 4/11 but NOT THIS YEAR. We also missed Red-headed Woodpecker despite spending 3+ hours in Wyalusing. Spring flowers seem behind at Wyalusing (no blooming Dutchmen's Breeches which I usually see this trip). Pasque flowers are blooming at Nelson Dewey State Park. Hepatica and Bloodroot is blooming in various spots along Dugway Road and Nelson Dewey. The flooding is higher than I have seen for early April. Much of the boat landing access points for the Upper Mississippi are flooded right now. Potosi point, Lynn Hollow and Bertrom Landing at the end of Far Nuf Road are all inaccessible. Bagley Bottoms is also inaccessible. However the top of the road leading in to Bagley Bottoms had nice flooded fields with TRUMPETER SWANS and a mixed flock of GREATER AND LESSER YELLOWLEGS. We ended our day at Potosi Brewing Company with a good meal and excellent micro brewed beer. Total number of species for the day: 81 May post link to photos of day later if time. Have to get out and make hay while the sun is shiningJ Cynthia Bridge Fort Atkinson, Jefferson Co. #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
