Hello,
This morning, myself and four other birders had the opportunity to visit a
private residence in Oneida County to view a reported Clark's Nutcracker
(CN here after). Upon arriving, we saw the bird right away high up in a
tree as we were getting out of our cars. The CN didn't stay long, and flew
out of the yard as we were walking up to the front door. We were invited
into the very nice home, and talked with the home owners about this bird.
We found out that this bird has been visiting the yard for around 6 weeks
now, and only recently has word gotten out about it.
We all kept our eyes on the feeders, suet bags, and the rib cage of a dead
deer carcass that the CN was coming into. During this time we had great
views of other feeder birds such as a nice Hoary Redpoll mixed in with many
Common Redpolls, a Pileated Woodpecker, and around 10 Pine Grosbeaks that
included 2 males mixed in. After awhile, the CN returned and gave all of us
great views.
We asked about if others would be allowed to come and visit, but the home
owners were hesitant, and didn't know whether or not if they wanted a lot
of people coming into their yard or house. We decided that we would stay in
contact with them later this week to see if any other visits could be
arranged. So for now, no other visit are allowed, but we are hoping this
will change.

If visitation is allow, Myles Hurlburt and I will have to figure out how
this is going to be handled. They might allow one more visit for a limited
number of people. If another visit is allowed, it'll be up to this next
group to try and persuade the host into letting more people visit.
