I checked the Anderson sod farm west of Appleton (Winnebago co) this morning. It proved productive and surprising for shorebirds. The best was a Buff-breasted Sandpiper that was separate from the other birds. It was in one of the south fields towards the west end (before the area where there is some water that is attracting the shorebirds). It however disappeared after only a few minutes. In fact there was a turn over of shorebirds during the hour I spent there. (Half the yellowlegs left and 2 small flocks of Pectorals arrived, that included an individual with a broken leg.) Besides the Buffie there were 25 Killdeer, 5 Solitary Sandpipers, 15 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Semipalmated, 2 Least 1 Baird's and 6 Pectoral Sandpipers, and 3 Wilson's Snipe. Yesterday there were 2 Baird's Sandpipers and surprisingly 2 Ravens here. Supposedly with more rain coming today and upcoming days, this spot probably should be checked in the future days. Good luck.
