[windows2000] Still more XP

I have an XP box that will not boot. It gives a "cannot load software hive"
message. I've had that happen once or twice in Windows 2000 and always
re-installed the OS. Does anyone know how to recover from an error like
this? I didn't see anything in the recovery console that seem to be the
right tool.
