[windows2000] OT - Internet DNS change

This is sort of off thread, although most of you all have internet access.
We are changing providers, thus changing our web/mail/vpn address on the
outside. How long does it customarily take for changes to proliferate (for
major carriers), and is there any way to ease the transition from one
address to another?
