There might be multiple NICs and multiple IP addresses.  Google for a script
to pull the IP Address of the "first" NIC card using your favorite scripting
language.  Even when there are multiple IP (including VPN addresses) it is
probably the one you want anyway.

I googled for a list of environment variables available in newer windows
versions, but couldn't see any variables for the ip.

Isn't there really *any* variable for the ip-address in windows??
