That was supposed to be "Look at your Address Leases" not "Address
Reservations"

1. Are they using the same scope? If so, I bet they are already "fighting"
with each other. Take a look at your "Address reservations" in the DHCP
snap-in. Are there a bunch of "Bad_Address" records?

DHCP in Win2K is pretty smart... before it sends a reply to a client for who
it received a "DHCP DISCOVER" packet, it checks that the address it is about
to assign is not in use. If it is, it marks it as "bad" and attempt to give
out a new address. If they are using the same scope, then there is a good
change that DHCP server A has already handed out an address, but since there
is no such thing as DHCP Replications (that would be a nice feature) the
other server doesn't know it until it goes to hand out the same address, and
performs the above check.

2. AD Sites and Services->Sites->{your site name}->{Your server's
name}->NTDS Settings->(Right click)->Properties->Global Catalog.

Subject: [windows2000] A couple of questions about redistributing DC
functions

I have 2 servers in my Windows 2000 Server Active Directory, which are DHCP
servers. If one of them goes away, is that OK?

And one of those servers is also the global catalog server. Because it is
such an old server, I would like to transfer the GC functionality to some
other DC; how do I do that?
