Hello fellow Winamp users:
I've just recently installed Winamp version 5.63 on my computer.
However, there are a couple of things, to which are not right..
For example, whenever I press enter on an mp3 file, Winamp will launch
automatically and begin playing the file through its own player, and I
don’t want that happening. Apparently, what I think happened was,
somehow Winamp made itself my default player. I'd prefer that files
play through Winamp, only when I specifically launch Winamp. Once the
installation was completed, I pressed enter upon the Winamp icon on my
desktop, and a setup wizard came up. The first thing I saw, was a
drop-down menu asking me if I wanted to use either the current or
classic. It didn’t actually say what it was talking about. I figured
that it was probably skins, (whatever they are), and selected classic.
then I pressed next. Then, a bunch of other checkboxes came up which
were all checked by default. I don’t remember what they were now, but I
can tell you, that the information didn’t make much of any sense to me,
as I don’t understand computer jargon. When I'm not using Winamp, I'd
rather that files play through Windows Media player. Is there a way to
stop Winamp from launching automatically, so that when playing mp3
files, Windows Media Player will launch instead of Winamp? Secondly, it
appears, that Winamp doesn't have a menu bar; you know, that set of
menues that say, "file, edit, view ETC. Does Winamp have a context
sensitive help section? Simply pressing tab or shift-tab in Winamp,
don't appear to have any effect. I still have some cds to rip into my
computer, but I don't want Winamp to do anything when I do this. I'm
used to ripping cds soley through Windows Media player. I'm planning to
become a dj on MushroomFM in the near future, and due to financial
reasons, I'm going to have to use the (if you'll forgive the
expression,) (cheap skate's) way of broadcasting online by using
Winamp. Since Winamp is free, it's the best I can use for now and
therefore, would like to get a feel for how Winamp works, before
signing up with that station. But overall, Winamp doesn't seem to be
all that user friendly, at least not with Window-eyes, which is my
screen reader of choice. All I've been able to figure out how to do so
far, is play, stop, pause and delete files from the playlist, and
adjust the volume. Actually, the only file I've deleted from the list
so far, is that default one that comes with Winamp, that says, "Winamp,
it Whips the lama's ass." You know what? I bet if djs were to play that
file over the air, even as a joke, they'd probably get in trouble for
it. Some people could take a thing like that very seriously. But you
have to admit, it's kinda funny too. Chances are, that Winamp is
probably not as complex as it appears. Maybe it just appears that way
because I’m a newbie. To begin with, how would I go about creating a
playlist? Is there a way to do this accessibly with a screen reader?
I'm quite new to Winamp, so any assistance, would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
