hi Chris and List,

I did not follow this thread very well. If people are asking how you can
get Winamp to Play streaming Windows Media audio (.ASX files), there are a
complex series of steps that can be used. One thing to try initially is to
add the expression ?=.wma at the end of an address. This doesn't always
work, but sometimes it does.

You can try downloading the pointer and viewing its contents in a text
editor and then fishing around for a direct address. You can play with the
ending such as adding the above ?=.wma expression. You can also change an
MMS designation to an http designation and visa versa.

In any case, if you are successful in any of the above methods, you can then
bookmark the stream with alt + I and you are good to go--until the next time
the server address changes--in which case you have to repeat any or all of
the above steps to regain the stream.

Some people say there is a way to get the browser embedded streams to work
with Winamp, but frankly, I wasn't able to follow the complexity and when I
attempted it, it never worked for me.

Like Bruce says in a later message in this thread, by using an
earlier version of Winamp, you are opening yourself, and anyone else
who uses your computer to a *potential* security flaw. No it's not
gonna like wreck your computer or anything, but why take that
chance? and if you ask for tech support from Nullsoft, they'll just
tell you to upgrade to 5.31, or whatever the current version is anyways.
There's really nothing wrong with the newer versions, unless you use
the media library, and even then, there are scripts which will fix
that issue. so to me you got no excuse not to upgrade, unless the
later versions cause your computer to lag or anything else like that.
Then I can understand not upgrading.
