High David,
I'm with you on that one man!
I helped a friend that had Vista on her computer.
I didn't spend enough time with it to disable those stupid prompts, but I did get it to work for her.
I do wonder, does Windows 7 act like that?
That will give you a headache after a while.

Chris, perhaps you're not getting the fact that people don't like to be annoyed by things constantly. I see your point about the values of UAC, but when it constantly bugs people, people get annoyed. The average everyday user wants to be able to use his/her computer without being interrupted by constant prompts. LIke it or not, that's something that is a reality. As someone who helps people on a regular basis with their computers, I can speak to this cause I've had people ask me to tweak settings for programs I've given for this various reason. Even if someone should have something set a certain way, if after I explain that to them they still want it the way they asked for, then that's how you should proceed. Just something to learn from this stuff.

I seem to get the impression that people are not understanding the purpose of user account control. It is meant to protect the system, both from a user and system-wide prospective, by not allowing a program to run tasks that require administrative privillages, without confirming with the user first. Another thing it does is runs Internet Explorer in "protected mode", meaning that code can't be executed from websites without the user first being warned, as well as loading Internet Explorer into a separate process rather than the shell. So if you can please take advantage of user account control, despite its annoyances.

Wouldn't it be much easier to simply disable the user account controls?

This happens in Windows 7 too:
1. Open Winamp.
2. Press ctrl+p to open the preferences dialogue box.
3. Arrow down to file types, tab to "restore file associations at
startup" and uncheck the check box.
4. Tab to close button, or simply press escape, to save your changes.
Hope this helps.

Hello, all. A friend and I have vista computers in which Winamp
continually
encounters the user account control? This is the latest winamp and,
other
than that, it works flawlessly? Thank you for any help.
