Hi all

Finally we start this weekend with a show I promised last week, the Halls
Of Ivy.  Since school is out in many places I thought this would be a fun
way to look at how radio treated comedy in the early 50s with 2 famous
married actor and actress.  Ronald & Benita Colman.  Here is a piece from
Wikipedia.

*ch*

*The Halls of Ivy* is an American situation comedy
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situation_comedy> that ran from 1950–52 on NBC
radio <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBC_Red_Network>, created by *Fibber
McGee & Molly <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibber_McGee_%26_Molly>*
co-creator/writer Don Quinn <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Quinn>. The
series was adapted into a CBS <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS>
television comedy (1954–55) produced by ITC Entertainment
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITC_Entertainment> and Television Programs
of America <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_Programs_of_America>.
British husband-and-wife actors Ronald Colman
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Colman> and Benita Hume
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benita_Hume> starred in both versions of the
show.

Quinn developed the show after he had decided to leave *Fibber McGee &
Molly* in the hands of his protégé Phil Leslie. *The Halls of Ivy's*
audition program featured radio veteran Gale Gordon
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gale_Gordon> (then co-starring in *Our Miss
Brooks <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Miss_Brooks>*) and Edna Best
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edna_Best> in the roles that ultimately went
to the Colmans, who demonstrated a flair for radio comedy during the late
1940s recurring roles on *The Jack Benny Program
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jack_Benny_Program>*.

This marathon will (hopefully) start today (Friday the 27th) and run until
Tuesday night at the last show of the series.  Since it is Memorial day
this is an extra long marathon.  To hear the marathon go to
http://www.mikesmess.com/theater.html and pick the Listen Live links for
the player that fits your needs.  If you wish to write me drop me an email
at theater@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.  I would love to hear from you about this series
and give me ideas for other marathon for the weeks to come.  Next week we
will not have a weekend marathon because of a repeat special I plan on
starting the 6th of June, more to come later.  Note the marathon may start
an hour or 2 later due to things happening in this house, but be patient it
will start.

bye for now
