Towson High School Needs You
at the BOE Mtg.
on Tuesday, 8/22!
Dear Friends and Neighbors of Towson High School,
We are hoping that you can take a break from your busy summer schedules, and
attend and testify at the upcoming Tuesday, August 22nd, 6:30pm BCPS Board of
Education meeting to advocate for Planning funding for Towson High School in
Baltimore County's FY19 Budget!
Towson High School's documented severe overcrowding and health and safety
issues need to be addressed- help us get Planning funds so that we can work
with Baltimore County to figure out whether a renovation or new construction of
THS is the best course of action. The meeting will be held in the E Building,
Room 114, Greenwood Campus. Please see updates below on our great success with
advocacy over the last several weeks since the May 24th BOE Capital Budget
hearing!
PLEASE RSVP to Melissa Baker for the Tuesday, August 22nd BOE meeting
(240-353-7201, flametamer1664@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:flametamer1664@xxxxxxxxx>) as
soon as possible, and let her know whether you plan on attending only, or both
attending and testifying. In addition to collecting attendance and testimony
RSVP's prior to the 8/22 meeting, Melissa will also sign in/organize THS folks
when they arrive at the 8/22 meeting, and guide them toward submitting their
names if they want to testify.
If testifying on 8/22, please arrive between 5:30-5:50pm (anyone arriving after
that won't be able to submit their name to testify). Those testifying need to
place their names in a box before 5:50pm. The first ten names of everyone (i.e.
those representing all schools and anyone else in attendance at the meeting who
submits their name to testify) will be drawn for the opportunity to speak.
Testimonies can be up to 3 minutes long.
We anticipate that there will be many people in attendance from many schools,
and so the more people from THS, the more likely we will have a chance to
testify!
If attending only on 8/22 and not testifying, please arrive by 6pm so that you
can get seats up front.
If you are testifying, we ask that you please start off your testimony by
thanking the Board of Education members for their consideration of our request
to include Planning funding for Towson High School in the BCPS budget for FY19.
Please also thank Superintendent White for her commitment to allocating
Planning funding in FY19 during the BOE 8/8 mtg.
The following is a link to Interim Superintendent Verletta White making those
remarks during the 8/8 School Board meeting. White stated that she and the
County Executive are in agreement about the need for Planning dollars to be
allocated to BCPS high schools- watch the video starting at time 1:04 at the

Steve Prumo and I are meeting with Superintendent White on 8/31 to thank her,
and to discuss the specifics of her remarks, including relevant next steps to
ensure Planning dollars are included in the County's FY19 budget.
PLEASE forward along this invitation and the attachments to your family,
friends, neighbors and colleagues, post on FB, etc. - the more voices from the
Community that we have as a part of our advocacy work, the better!
Steve Prumo and I will both be out of town on 8/22, but please feel free to
call or email me before 8/19 with any questions and remember to RSVP with
Melissa Baker ASAP!
UPDATE ON TOWSON HIGH SCHOOL ADVOCACY
· We appreciate you taking the time to fill out the THS New in '22 survey
petition! In just a few days prior to the May 24th BCPS Board of Education
Capital Budget hearing, we received nearly 500 responses to the survey
petition, which we were able to share during the hearing. The survey petition
responses yielded nearly 100% support of Planning and Capital funding for the
redevelopment of THS! If you haven't yet responded to the survey petition,
please do so ASAP, and please also send along the link to the survey petition
to your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, etc. Your responses not only
help to inform the BCPS Budget process, but by filling out the survey petition,
you will also be added to the THS New in '22 contact list for updates on our
progress about getting funding for THS! Here's a link to the survey petition-

· Over the last several weeks since the May 24th BOE Capital Budget
hearing, THS New in '22 Committee members and volunteers have continued to
advocate for Planning funding to be allocated to Towson High School in the FY19
Baltimore County Budget! Our meetings with the Baltimore County Executive's
Chief of Staff and Policy Director, as well as five BCPS BOE Members, including
Board Chair Ed Gilliss, have been very encouraging- all have acknowledged the
need for Planning dollars for THS. We are hopeful that their supportive words
will translate into Planning funds being allocated in Baltimore County's Budget
in FY19! We will continue to meet with the remaining Board of Education members
over the coming weeks.
· We've also been following up on the Towson High School Fire Safety
Inspection Violations which were revealed per our Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) request that we submitted in May to ensure that they are addressed ASAP.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, suggestions, comments,
etc.- we'd love to hear from you!
Thank you all for your ongoing commitment to ensuring that Planning funds are
allocated to Towson High School in Baltimore County's FY19 Budget!
Be well and talk soon-
Best regards,
Gretchen
