In light of the questionable solicitation activity last night, it seems
appropriate to remind residents of the county code regarding door-to-door

Here are the highlights:
* Anyone selling goods, merchandise, or service of any kind
door-to-door may only do so from the hours of 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (or "sunset
<http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php> " as identified by the
National Weather Service. Whichever is earlier.) Note that during most of
the Daylight Savings period, 7:00 PM will be earlier than sunset. The end
time used to be 5:00 PM, but for some reason the County Council and
Executive quietly extended this time during the 2015 legislative session.

* Anyone selling goods, merchandise, or service of any kind
door-to-door must be licensed and must display the license upon request by
any person to whom they are selling.
* Anyone selling goods, merchandise, or service of any kind
door-to-door may NOT do so on property visibly displaying a "No Soliciting"
sign (or sign containing similar words). This is your best defense against
door-to-door solicitors. Just make sure the sign is very clear and visible.
* This code does not apply to school-aged children who are engaged
in fund-raising activities.
If a solicitor knocks on your door and is violating the code provisions,
inform them that they are violating the law, shut the door, and call the
police. Even if a solicitor is not violating the code provisions, but is
overly aggressive, makes you uncomfortable, or something just doesn't feel
right, you should still consider calling the police.
