Dear Whitman Families and Friends, Here is what happening at or around the Whitman Community Mission Federal Banking Day Wednesdays at 8:40 am in front of the School Banking days are back and a representative from the Clairemont Branch will be available starting Tomorrow, September 10. If your child does not have an account, you can pick up an application at the front office. The Clairemont Branch is looking for a parent volunteer to help with banking day. Harmony & Motion International Music and Dance Festival September 20, 2014 1 pm and 5 pm Casa Del Prado Theater Balboa Park Harmony and Motion 2014 will feature: The Dornob Collective (Persian Dastgah), Ballet Folklorico Aztlan, Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi (Klezmer), San Diego Civic Dance Arts Company (Bollywood & much more!), Allegato World Music Ensemble (Transnational Jazz along with a special never-been-seen-before music and dance collaboration with SDCDA!), Samahan (Tribal Filipino), Kembang Sunda Gamelan (Indonesian Gamelan), Sol-E-Mar (Brazilian/Afro-Cuban Percussion & Dance), Fred Benedetti and George Svoboda (International Guitar), Gloria Lanuza (Flamenco)and Naruwan Taiko. We will top the day off with a grand Bollywood finale by San Diego Civic Dance! These performers are the best of the best in San Diego, many of whom are acclaimed and tour internationally. Whitman PTA will be giving away a free hot dog and drink for each Whitman PTA member. Sign up today for $5! You can pick up a membership envelope from the office. While we are an active PTA, volunteering is not required to be a member but having your membership counts. Sign-up for membership and get entered into drawing for a $50 gift card donated by Mission Federal (raffle tickets and drawing will be given at the back-to-school night). A Whitman PTA Association Meeting will be held starting at 5:30 pm. Madison Cluster Changes The Area 4 Superintendent, Dr. Sofia Freire gave a presentation on the changes being made in the Madison Cluster. As you know, all Elementary Schools in the Madison Cluster will be going from K-6 to K-5. Sequoia Elementary will be going from year-round to traditional school calendar. Innovation Middle will be going from 7-8 to 6 - 8 and CPMA will be a magnet school with the priority for the Madison Cluster. All the changes aer to take affect for the 2015-2016 school-year. Attached are some FAQ and while some questions and details may remain, more might be available by Back-to-school night. Fall Fundraiser Kick-off Scheduled for October 3, 2014 Whitman PTA Board is working closely with the school administration and we have a big goal this year to help raise monies to subsidize cost of digital speed limit signs for eastbound and westbound directions of Appleton Street. We also want to fund field trips, parent engagement events, Family Science events, school planners and folders, much much more. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
