Dear Whitman Families and Friends,
Thank you to those that attended the Chili's Dine-out last Thursday and
hopefully you also had the opportunity to attend the All School fair at
Balboa Park this past Saturday as well.
Here's a friendly reminder of what's happening around Whitman:
ASB Sock Drive
January 20, 2012 - February 14, 2012
The ASB of Whitman Elementary are participating in a sock drive to donate
socks to the Salvation Army and the Polinsky Children's Center. ASB is
accepting new and unused socks for children and adults.
Tomorrow! January 31, 2012, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Star Party
WHERE: Meet on the blacktop, by the red play structure, for stargazing.
WHAT: Volunteers from the San Diego Astronomy Association will be setting
up telescopes for everyone to use. We will be able to see the Ursa
Minor (Little Dipper), Moon, Uranus, Neptune, Jupiter, Draco, and much, much
more.

February 13 - February 16, 2012 - Family Science Week
Whitman PTA and the Staff of Whitman Elementary are working hard to plan and
finalize details revolving engaging families and students of Whitman
Elementary. If you or someone you know has a career in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics and is interested in participating in Career

Merchandise:
Show your Whitman Spirit by wearing your Cougar merchandise!!! Check out
examples of the merchandise on display inside the Front Office. Order forms
are available in the front office. Cash - exact change please, and checks -
payable to Whitman PTA, are accepted.
We have:
Sorry there are not youth shirts available at this time, the Whitman PTA
Board is considering taking pre-orders for youth shirts.
Polos for Ladies and Mens - Size M, L, XL, and 2X for both
Scoop neck shirts (note these are Junior/Misses sizes so for adults, go up
one size) - M, L, XL
New!!! - Hooded pullovers in Youth Medium and limited Youth Large
New!!! Whitman T-Shirts, Adult sizes only, M, L, XL, and 2XL There are No
Youth sizes
We also still have the cougar paw T-Shirts for Adults (Size S - 2X), cougar
paw zippered hoodies for Youth Small, and Adults (sizes S - 2XL)
Volunteer Opportunities
Parents/teachers that wish to help make a difference at Whitman with the
Whitman PTA are welcome to help in the following ways:
Mission Federal Banking Days - Every Wed except the first Wed of the month.
Parent Reps for grades Pre-K, 3 - 6: Be a member of the Board by being a
representative for the grade and serve as a liaison by passing on important
info of upcoming testing, field trips, or other types of events that are
grade specific.
School Site Council Board (SSC)
SSC Board is comprised of Parents and Staff of the school and participate in
making decision in regards to specific programs at Whitman Elementary.
