School Smarts Steering Committee Chairperson Whitman Elementary will be featuring a series of seven workshops specifically designed for parents to help them navigate the education system, provide skills to help their students as well as be leaders in advocating for their children. The Steering Committee will be responsible for providing light meals for the participants, setup of the workshop, and host the graduation ceremony. We need a chairperson to oversee the operation and we need committee members to help make sure the workshops run smoothly. The members of this committee can be from the SSC, ELAC, and Whitman PTA and also participate in the workshops. There will be a kick-off night on January 13, 2015 at 5:30 pm and the workshops begin over the course of 9 weeks starting on February 3, 2015 at 5:30 pm. Whitman Elementary was selected to receive this $4900 program at no cost thanks to San Diego Unified Council of PTAs and California PTA as part of a state-wide grant. If you are interested or would like more information on how you can help the Whitman PTA, please feel free to contact me. Again, thanks so much for helping. We couldn't do it without you!
