Dear Whitman Families and Friends,
Here is what is happening at or around the Whitman community.
Banking Day
Every Wednesday!!!
Mission Federal is actively looking for parents to help volunteer to do the
banking day. Find out more when they come on Wednesdays.
Attention 5 th and 6 th graders:
Wednesday, December 3rd: For the families of our current 5th and 6th grade
students: the Enrollment Preference Request Form for Middle School will be
passed out to students on December 3rd. Please return your form, no later than
December 15th

Whitman PTA Board Meeting
Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 8:15 am in Room 1
We’ll be deciding on the final details for the Kids Korner Holiday Shoppe and
School Smarts Parent Engagement Program!
5 th/6 th Grade Promotion Fundraiser
Please help the 5 th and 6 th graders raise monies for their Promotion in June
by ordering from their Dudley’s Bread Fundraiser. Lots of delicious varieties
to choose from for $5 a loaf!

Fall Fundraiser Sellers that sold 10 items will be invited to a fun party.
Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC)
General Meeting
The meeting is this coming Thursday, December 11, 2014. The meeting will be held
at the Ballard Parent Center in Old Town.
This month's PRESENTATION will feature
Superintendent Cindy Marten
There will be a reception with refreshments from 6-6:30 pm, the meeting will run
from 6:30-8:30 pm
Childcare and Spanish interpreters will be provided at the meeting. If you need
translation in a language other than Spanish, please contact the Special
Education Office as soon as possible at 619.725.7700 We hope to see you there!
Holiday Shop
Setup December 12, 2014 at 4 pm in the Whitman Library
Sign-up at the Front Office, our busiest days are Monday and Tuesday but any
help is welcomed!
Shop days December 15 – December 18.
Breakfast with Santa
Saturday, December 13, 2014, 9 am – 12 pm
South Clairemont Rec Center
Located on Clairemont Dr next to Martsen Middle School
Cost: $5 for one adult + 1 child, $3 for each additional child
The 43rd Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights!
The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is a time-honored holiday tradition brought
to San Diego by the boating community. Join us this December for our annual
Parade on San Diego Bay, with more than 80 boats lavishly decorated according to
a new theme each year. The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is held two
consecutive Sundays each year in December. The Parade proceeds from Shelter
Island past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and Ferry Landing
in Coronado.
When: Sunday, December 14, 2014 and Sunday, December 21, 2014
The procession will start at 5:30 p.m. and will follow the predetermined parade

sent home that needs to be filled out and sent back as soon as possible.
Whitman PTA Needs your Help!
Kids Korner Holiday Shop Helpers Needed!
The annual Kids Korner Holiday Shop is coming on December 15 – December 18, 2014
and we need 3-4 volunteers to help setup the shop on December 12 (can be during
or after school). We need 3-4 shop helpers between 8 am – 3:30 pm for 1 to 2
hour shifts. Shopping times are only during school hours and is closed 12:30 pm
– 1:30 pm daily, except on Wednesday, the shop is closed by 12:30 pm. Attached
is the holiday shop schedule for the classrooms and volunteer sign-up sheets.
School Smarts Steering Committee Chairperson
Whitman Elementary will be featuring a series of seven workshops specifically
designed for parents to help them navigate the education system, provide skills
to help their students as well as be leaders in advocating for their children.
The Steering Committee will be responsible for providing light meals for the
participants, setup of the workshop, and host the graduation ceremony. We need
a chairperson to oversee the operation and we need committee members to help
make sure the workshops run smoothly. The members of this committee can be from
the SSC, ELAC, and Whitman PTA and also participate in the workshops. There
will be a kick-off night on January 13, 2015 at 5:30 pm and the workshops begin
over the course of 9 weeks starting on February 3, 2015 at 5:30 pm. Whitman
Elementary was selected to receive this $4900 program at no cost thanks to San
Diego Unified Council of PTAs and California PTA as part of a state-wide grant.
