I also wanted to share my current thinking about fall 2020.
I've been planning to apply to MSW programs at Smith and Simmons this fall. So
far, I've been finding it hard to muster the momentum I need to get the
applications off the ground.
What is becoming clearer is that I’m enjoying the work, the children, the
families, and my fellow caregivers at WFDC, and that my life is beginning to
find a steadier, more connected rhythm after years of upheaval and change and
the anticipation of life in an empty nest. I still imagine transitioning to a
career in social work over time. However, with day care and life in general
going smoothly and my need to support myself and Isabel for a few more years,
I’m feeling less urgent about making the shift in the next year or two.
So, while I may still apply to grad school this fall, I'm feeling quite
confident that the day care will remain open next year and possibly beyond,
depending on how life unfolds. The results of the applications this year will
give me information about options and the finances of the transition, but I
would likely defer any acceptance for a year or more. My goal is to make my own
life run smoothly and to give families and staff adequate notice before
downsizing or closing WFDC.
I imagine that due to my investigations of a career shift, or to things
happening in your own families, some of you might have begun to think about
other options for your children for fall 2020. I’ve spoken to some of you about
plans for younger siblings and I know we have three children going on to
kindergarten in the fall.
I would be most grateful if families could give me a sense of your wishes for
fall 2020. Assuming we are open, would you wish to send your children to WFDC,
both those with us now who are not headed to kindergarten, and younger
siblings?
Life continues to unfold. Right now I need to focus on getting my daughter’s
financial aid forms completed as she, unlike me, is on the ball and has
completed a whole raft of college applications and needs me to do my part!!
I hope you're having a good weekend. I appreciate all the support you've given
to WFDC through the many changes the last few years and to me as I’ve begun to
explore the possibility of going back to school and starting on the path of
becoming a therapist. Time will tell if that is the route I’ll be taking.
Little by little, I hope to know better when and how to make the changes I
would need to make for that option to work well for me and my family and the
day care.
Thank you for your patience and understanding and communication as we all
figure out our lives!!
In gratitude for good work and a solid community,
Maria
