Please review Angela’s emails on this thread and the information I
write here, and please vote on the when we should allow building
rentals to begin.
In the past the BCA grant letter award letter was sent by the third
week of May. If we are awarded any funds, we will know by then what
amount if we are blessed with an award. We will not know if the amount
will cover the entire cost until we see the website or the letter.
Then it would come down to scheduling for the work to be done.
Voting Question: Should we allow building rentals to begin on and
after July 1, 2019?

Yes, some of the Board did decide to hold off on renting. The inquiries are
coming from potential Vacation Bible School, Business meetings, Youth events
and healthy class venues into July and August months. If there could be a
target date that you can provide to open up rentals, I can respond to the
inquiries. We would not have a number count for the events because we have
not initiated a response or application process. We just kinda need to know
if we should tell them to look elsewhere.
If I can recall, at the meeting, the month of June was mentioned. the
current seekers are asking for later months in the summer.

I had to wait until I had a moment to send a thoughtful response.
Well the BCA grant application is in, and we shall have to wait for a
response before we can get any installation of flooring scheduled. We
have not taken the step of ripping up the floor yet…the warmer it is
in the building, the better those floor tiles lay down. But they are
still sticking up, and are a tripping hazard. It is a very tricky
situation we are in. Having the building open to primarily members, we
will have a diminished chance that someone will want to sue us for a
trip and fall if they are not injured. If a person does trip and fall,
no matter who they are, I would think they will need to recoup at the
very minimum out of pocket costs for any medical expenses. Yes, that
is where the insurance comes in, but we do have a deductible to pay.
And thinking about this more, we do have the requirement of the renter
either obtaining insurance, or having every attendee sign a waiver at
the beginning. So, that would have to be more strictly enforced than
what we do now.
“Are you still closed to the idea for rentals?” I thought that you, at
a board meeting, initially suggested that we might pause on taking
rentals until we figure out the floor situation. So the ‘you’ part
throws me. But maybe I am a bit too into my programming (zeros and
ones, off and on) mentality at this time, and I misinterpreted that
statement. I would say that we, as a board decided to hold off on the
building rentals.
Please give us some information that might help us make a decision.
What date(s) are being asked about? What is the rough high level guess
on how many will attend? Is it a member inquiring?
It just might be that we can decide to reopen the building to rentals
since the tiles are laying down a bit better due to the warmth of the
building.
