One thing that might be driving some of the most current round of FaceBook
signups is this blog entry (June 24, 2007 by danah boyd) that made its
rounds across the blogosphere:

Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace
http://www.danah.org/papers/essays/ClassDivisions.html

In sum, she says deciding on one or the other is based on class divisions.

The lightning rod line is:

"A month ago, the military banned MySpace but not Facebook. This was a
very interesting move because the division in the military reflects the
division in high schools. Soldiers are on MySpace; officers are on
Facebook."

The whole essay is worth a look, especially for the great background on
the services.
