I have some questions about the changes that have been to the audio system
on Vista, if there's anyone here who can shed some light on this.
1. Since input and output devices are now identified only by pin type, is
there any way to differentiate between multiple pins of the same type, such
as multiple line inputs and outputs on a multichannel card?
2. Since Vista creates a waveIn "device" for each input source on each KS
input subdevice, and only a single mixer "device" is created irrespective of
the number of topology subdevices the driver may create, is there any way
for application software to determine which inputs belong to which outputs,
and which mixer controls belong to which inputs and outputs on a
multichannel card, in a way that works on both Vista and XP?
3. Is there any way to make a multichannel sound card appear under Vista the
same way it did under earlier versions of Windows, with a waveIn, waveOut
and mixer device for each input/output pair?
4. Will this new method of mapping KS subdevices onto waveIn, waveOut and
mixer devices in Vista be documented prior to its general release?
5. Failing all of the above, will Vista support the old NT4 style of
roll-your-own audio driver?
