I've had trouble talking about the unspeakable tragedy at the Seago's. It's
hard to find words
that come close to describe the feelings this generated. I don't think there
are any.
I recall Vivian and Demi bringing plants to the selectboard from the school
greenhouse. They
were sweet, lovely and a little shy. I remember thinking must come from a very
special family.
This was my last contact with the family. They were generous with their time,
Scott being on
the Broadband Committee and Lucinda on the Board of Health.
This town won't ever be the same.
Yet, in the midst of this disaster, I witnessed incredible dedication and
perseverance on the
part of our firefighters. At 4 a.m. on Saturday I was called to the fire
station. I sat there most
of the day, feeling pretty useless. But I witnessed amazing focus on the
sorrowful job to be done,
and unselfish participation of 16 other departments, some of whom I'm sure had
never been
to Warwick.
I continue to witness the caring and generosity of our community. On Sunday at
WCS, people
came, and hugged, and were just "there", for Scott and Vivian, and for each
other. The many
fund-raising efforts are extraordinary.
And so, in the midst of this tragedy there are the seeds of hope. There is so
much willingness to help,
to be involved, so many demonstrations of love and care. Through our grief, we
see what really matters.
I feel proud and fortunate to be a Warwickian.
