Hey there folks, consider this a tech PSA:
I know many people have been pointed in the direction of Zoom recently
to stay in touch with others, and I'd like to present an alternative.
Zoom works well for certain situations, but I don't think it's the right
tool for most people. I'm sure some of you have bumped up against the 40
minute time limit for free accounts, or experienced people having
trouble installing and using the software.
Any modern web browser (latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari) can
take advantage of software already built into them to video chat with
others!
Jitsi (https://meet.jit.si/) is open source, has no software to install,
and is more secure (Zoom & Skype route video through their central
servers). Simply create a room, and then share the URL with whoever you
would like to meet you there (ie: https://meet.jit.si/*warwickma*
<https://meet.jit.si/warwickma>). There are no accounts or registration.
