I think the tax deductible question was asked for the same reason I was
wondering... if it is a registered charitable organization then my
company will match my gift, thereby doubling the contribution. If it's not
registered then they won't match. Doug sort of indicated that but maybe it
wasn't perfectly clear.

For tax deductibility folks should make payment to the church and provide
direction e.g. Warwick or Seago on memo line.
This is charitable giving and since you get no monetary value in return
(tote bag or concert tickets) it will be tax deductible if that matters.

A couple of questions: will the GoFundMe URL be sent out (I assume it will
as soon as it is ready), and if people make checks to the Church are they
tax deductible? I mention this mainly because knowing that might enable
some people to give a bit more – it’s true for a 501(c)3 organization I
work with.

At the request of the family’s church, Our Lady of Czestochowa will be
the single fundraising point. I’ve informed the Red Cross who had agreed to
help us on this. Our Lady are creating a “Go Fund Me” online account and
will accept donations at 84 K St. Turners Falls MA 01376. I have an
envelope I will be turning in to the church and I will accept your
contribution and add it. Checks may be made payable Scott Seago or to Our
Lady of Czestochowa with “Warwick Fire” or “Seago” in the memo line in the
latter case.
The church will let me know about funeral arrangements soon as they are
available and I will share.
