For the sake of accuracy, and in fairness to the candidacy of Northfield

conjectured in an earlier post.

Martha may have spoken that night, but I, personally, have not heard talk of
closing the school. Anyone else able to remember who spoke in public
comments that night? I looked for minutes, but didn’t find those posted.

Yes, Jessica, I was talking about the woman who made public comment at WCS.

Tom, thanks!
Another question: a candidate for School Committee from Northfield recently
spoke up at the committee's meeting at WCS. In her comments she complained
about the necessity of re-instating the music teacher to full-time status at
Northfield Elementary.
I believe she's running for the School Committee seat in Northfield.
Who is she? I believe she wouldn't be a favorable candidate for us.
In the past she has spoken in favor of closing the elementary schools in
Warwick and Leyden, if it'll keep programs in Northfield open.
Thanks,
Doc

As many of you know, Warwick residents will be voting on Tuesday for PVRSD
school committee positions in all 4 district towns. There are 7 positions to
be filled, but only 6 will be on the ballot - 2 from Leyden, 2 from
Bernardston, 1 from Northfield and 1 from Warwick. The remaining position (
a 2 year slot from Warwick) was not filed in time and will be appointed by
the town moderator. Fortunately, Jessica Marshall from town has stepped
forward, offering to serve in that position.
There are contested races for 3 positions. In Bernardston, there are 3
candidates for 2 positions (Jeanne Milton, Aaron Gerry & Mike Townsley). In
Northfield there are 2 candidates for one position (Martha Parker & Kristen
Gonzalez). The uncontested races have Abbi Pratt & Karen O’Neil on the
ballot for 2 positions from Leyden and Sue O'Reilly-McRae running for one
Warwick position.
Many in Warwick are concerned about the ongoing discussion of closing the
Warwick Community School. As you decide who to vote for, you should know
that in a recent Recorder article, writer Max Marcus says Mike Townsley from
Bernardston "emphasized that as the budget continues to tighten, it will be
preferable to close schools rather than cut the district’s course
offerings." On Thursday, Max Marcus wrote another article, on the candidate
forum that happened this past week. In addition, you can listen/watch to a
video recording of that forum recorded by Bernardston Northfield Community
Television.
There will be a PVRSD HEART Committee meeting this coming Wednesday,
November 7th at 6:30pm in the Northfield Town Hall Auditorium. There will be
reports on the work by the grant-funded consultants who are researching and
advising on 4 issues: regional agreement changes, administrative
re-structuring, school closures and school choice. The agenda is here.
