Smokin' Hot News . From the Fire house
Hello Warwick,
Well, like it or not, winter is upon us and we will be, once again, using
our heating sources.
Please have all of you heat sources cleaned and properly maintained. It is
important that they are serviced, working fine and up to code. Clean your
chimneys and flues from last year's usage and any nests that critters may
have built over the summer. Please take great care when disposing of hot
embers/ashes from your wood stove, a metal trash can works great and when
cool discard ashes.
It is so very important, and I can't stress this enough, that you have
working smoke/CO detectors and that you practice a plan of escape from your
home, two methods of escape.
If purchasing a new one is a financial hardship, the fire department has
free smoke/Co2 detectors, If you would like one please contact a member of
the fire department and we will get one to you.
The W.F.D. has purchased 100 "911" street number signs. On my way to a
recent inspection, I passed by 4 houses in a row that did not have a clearly
visible house number for their address. That slows down our, and other
mutual aid companies that are not familiar with the town, response time
tremendously. It is imperative to make your house number visible for an
ambulance to find you.
They are green reflective signs that you put your number (which is
reflective too) on both sides. They are $15.00 each ($5.00 xtra for a post)
and we strongly recommend that you purchase one. You can call my home and I
will arrange for you to get one. We will put the numbers on for you and help
you install them if necessary as well. Your fire department is here for you.
We held a public Safety Day at the town hall on October, 28th. I was greatly
disappointed in it's attendance. Only three Warwick residents came.
I arranged for a safety building to be there so you could literally
experience being in a burning building and actually have the hands on
experience of getting out safely. It is my opinion that all families need to
be well educated and prepared for a fire. I'm trying very hard to make that
happen and to reassure that we do not have any more tragedies in this town.
