*To the PVRSD School Committee, Town Selectboards, Town Finance Committees,
PVRSD Parents, Teachers, Students and Interested Citizens:*
You are invited to attend a community forum about the Pioneer Valley
Regional School District presented by the HEART Committee where data that
has been gathered by consultants from the Massachusetts Association of
Regional Schools (MARS) will be presented. This will include data related
to financial sustainability and an analysis of school closure. After the
presentation of the data, the community will have an opportunity to provide
feedback.

It is important for all involved town officials, citizens, and committees
tasked with decision-making to have a common understanding of our present
situation as we plan for the future. Please be a part of this important
conversation and provide input to the town committees completing this
important grant funded work for the district.
*About The HEART Committee:*
The HEART (Honest Education and Retaining Trust) Committee was established
in March, 2017 by the district towns to assist the PVRSD School Committee
on issues related to long-term financial sustainability, and will serve in
an advisory capacity to the school committee through the process of
amending the District Agreement.
Using funding from a Community Compact grant, the HEART Committee hired
consultants from the Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools (MARS)
to perform data gathering and analysis in four areas:
• School Closing Analysis - analysis of the impact of closing one or two of
the smallest schools in the PVRS district
• Models of Administrative Structure – given PVRSD’s current financial
constraints and reduced enrollment, what administrative structure is
recommended
• Analysis of the impact of school choice and charter on the district-
analysis of why students are choicing out of or into the district
• Updating the PVRSD Agreement- the research, data gathering and modeling
involved in this process, and statutory changes at the state level will
result in necessary changes to the district agreement
