Coping with his own new disability, Richard befriends an acerbic genius (Michael Sheen) with cerebral palsy, another veteran (Yul Vasquez) suffering from alcoholism and girl into "free-love" (Melissa George). Then, with the support of his friends behind him, Richard becomes a tireless advocate on behalf of the disabled who eventually becomes one of the key supporters of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Rails & Ties from Warner Bros. Pictures (Oct 26) (cc only)
Tom and Megan Stark always thought there would be time--time to have children, time to take that trip to San Francisco, time to fix the problems in their marriage. But Megan's illness and Tom's inability to face the possibility of losing her are stealing all the time they have left. All Tom can do is bury himself in his job as a train engineer, where at least he feels in control and everything runs on a predetermined track.

American Gangster from Universal Pictures (Nov 2) (cc dvs)
Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Brian Grazer and Ridley Scott team to tell the true juggernaut success story of a cult figure from the streets of 1970s Harlem in American Gangster.

Bee Movie from Paramount* (Nov 2) (cc description)
Bee Movie is a comedy that will change everything you think you know about bees. Having just graduated from college, a bee by the name of Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) finds himself disillusioned with the prospect of having only one career choice – honey. As he ventures outside of the hive for the first time, he breaks one of the cardinal rules of the bee world and talks to a human, a New York City florist named Vanessa (Renée Zellweger). He is shocked to discover that the humans have been stealing and eating the bees' honey for centuries, and ultimately realizes that his true calling in life is to set the world right by suing the human race for stealing their precious honey.

Fred Clause from Warner Bros. Pictures (Nov 9) (cc dvs)
Fred Claus (Vince Vaughn) has lived almost his entire life in his little brother's very large shadow. Fred tried, but he could never live up to the example set by the younger Nicholas (Paul Giamatti), who was just a perfect...well...Saint. True to form, Nicholas grew up to be the model of giving, while Fred became the polar opposite: a repo man who then steals what he repossesses.

Lions for Lambs from MGM (Nov 9) (cc dvs)
Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise star in Lions for Lambs, a powerful and gripping story that digs behind the news, the politics and a nation divided to explore the human consequences of a complicated war. Directed by Academy Award® winner Robert Redford, the story begins after two determined students at a West Coast University, Arian (Derek Luke) and Ernest (Michael Pena), follow the inspiration of their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (Redford), and attempt to do something important with their lives. * WGBH has developed a conversion process to enable select Paramount and DreamWorks films to be available via Rear Window Captioning systems. Some of these titles will also be available with descriptions. The latter will be designated "description" vs. DVS in our Updates to indicate availability of that feature, though WGBH did not create those descriptions.
