MOPIX OPEN CAPTIONED UPDATES
-- MoPix Update from WGBH- Dec 8
==================================================
MoPix Update from WGBH- Dec 15

TWO MORE ACCESSIBLE FILMS DEBUT THIS WEEK...

Eragon from Twentieth Century Fox Films (cc dvs) (rated PG)
Eragon is a young farm boy who finds a blue stone in the mountains. The stone turns out to be a dragon egg, and Eragon soon bonds with the dragon and discovers that he's one of the last Dragon Riders. Later, Eragon's family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, and he must learn to fight before a war begins.

The Pursuit of Happyness from Sony Pictures (cc dvs) (rated PG-13))
Based on the life of Chris Gardner, a self-made millionaire, this drama stars Will Smith as a man who finds himself jobless and homeless at age 30, living in a San Francisco train station with his infant son. Determined to beat the odds, he finds work as a trainee at a brokerage and climbs the corporate ladder, eventually becoming partner and owner of his own Chicago-based firm.

MOPIX ENTERS THE BLOGOSPHERE
Our good friends at AOL asked if we'd like to share the weekly MoPix Update on ability.aol.com. Not only a good idea, but also an opportunity to have a bit of back and forth with the MoPix audience out there. Consider sharing your opinions, ideas and, perhaps even movies-with-captioning-and-description reviews. Last week's update is there now. It will take us a bit of time today to get this week's posting there, and a little bonus material as well to keep it fresh and happening as they say. That URL again is ability.aol.com, link to Entertainment.

WGBH'S MEDIA ACCESS EFFORTS ATTRACT MAJOR GIFT
Like everyone else, we love presents. Especially those that we can turn around and use for the good of all of you out there. So it gives us great pleasure to announce WGBH's National Center for Accessible Media, the research, development and public policy branch of the Media Access Group, has received a commitment of 1 million dollars from the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation to support our work over the next six years. More info on the projects we'll be undertaking thanks to this generous Boston- and Palm Beach-based foundation will be coming soon. For now, our name has changed to reflect our appreciation and to recognize this wonderful news. We'll be the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media at WGBH. Read more about this news at: http://ncam.wgbh.org/

DEER, RED NOSE, LARGE MAN DRESSED IN RED... YOU KNOW THE DRILL
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, had a very shiny nose. But wait, the descriptions get much better than that. This year, once again, CBS will be broadcasting this most favorite of holiday specials (of your loyal MoPix scribe anyway) with description for viewers who are blind or visually impaired. Hear about the reindeer's fuzzy, 1964-era animated fur, let a professional describer tell you about the elves' strange hair styles, and the Abominable Snowmonster, we can't even begin to describe it/him here. The fun begins next Thursday evening, Dec. 21 at 8:00PM ET/PT. How to get description on your TV? Learn here: http://main.wgbh.org/wgbh/pages/mag/resources/guides/mag_guide_vol4.html

MORE ACCESSIBLE MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN THE NEXT MONTH

Rocky Balboa from MGM (Dec 20) (cc only)
Sylvester Stallone returns for a sixth time as Rocky Balboa, the tough-as-nails Philadelphia boxing champ. Only now Rocky is old, really old. In this installment of the sports saga, the 54-year-old Balboa is lured out of retirement for one final fight when a computer simulation claims he could beat the current champ, Mason "the Line" Dixon (Antonio Tarver).

Night at the Museum from Twentieth Century Fox (Dec 22) (cc dvs)
Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) accepts what appears to be a menial job as a graveyard-shift security guard at a museum of natural history. During Larry's watch, extraordinary things begin to occur: Mayans, Roman gladiators, and cowboys emerge from their diorama to wage epic battles; in his quest for fire, a caveman burns down his own display; Attila the Hun pillages his neighboring exhibits, and a T-Rex reminds everyone why he's history's fiercest predator. Amid the chaos, the only person Larry can turn to for advice is a wax figure of President Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams).

The Good German from Warner Bros. Pictures (Dec 22) (cc only)
In post-WWII Berlin, U.S. Army war correspondent Jake Geismar (George Clooney) becomes involved once again with Lena Brandt (Cate Blanchett), a former lover whose missing husband is the object of a manhunt by both the American and the Russian armies. Jake tries to uncover the secrets Lena may be hiding in her desperation to get herself and her husband out of Berlin. Tully (Tobey Maguire), a soldier in the American Army motor pool assigned to drive Jake around Berlin, has black-market connections that may be Lena's way out.

The Good Shepard from Universal Pictures (Dec 22) (cc dvs)
Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), a student at Yale, is recruited to join the secret society Skull and Bones, a brotherhood and breeding ground for future world leaders. Wilson's sincere belief in American values render him a prime candidate for a career in intelligence, and he is soon recruited to work for the OSS (the precursor to the CIA) during World War II. Working in the heart of an organization where duplicity is required and nothing is taken at face value, Edward's idealism is steadily eroded as the country gets deeper and deeper into the Cold War. As his methods are adopted as standard operating procedure, Wilson develops into one of the Agency's veteran operatives.

We Are Marshall from Warner Bros. Pictures (Dec 22) (cc dvs)
After a plane crash claims the lives of 75 members of the Marshall University football team and its coaching staff, young coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) and his assistant (Matthew Fox) try to keep the program going, despite the emotional weight of the accident and the concerns of the community.
